53 evacuation centres set up in Sibu Division

SIBU: The Sibu Division Disaster Management and Relief Committee has set up 53 evacuation centres and activated its District operation rooms.

This was disclosed by Sibu Resident Charles Siaw yesterday who said the district operation rooms are at District offices in Selangau, Kanowit and here while Divisional operation room is set up at the Sibu Resident office.

“For the time being the operation rooms are open during office hours only. The 53 evacuation centres in the Division have yet to be activated.”

Siaw , who is also Sibu Division Disaster Management and Relief Committee chairman, was responding to questions from the press on how the Division is coping with the flood situation.

“We are doing continuous monitoring of constantly flooded areas.

“Also monitoring via iHYDRO https://ihydro.sarawak.gov.my/iHydro/en/index.jsp.”

On Wednesday night, Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) was on standby in several flood prone areas such as Sungai Assan main road and Kampung Kedada.

Meanwhile, when contacted Tamin Assemblyman Christopher Gira, said that so far there was no serious flooding in his constituency.
