BINTULU: The contractor of the Bintulu-Jepak Bridge, PPES Works CCCC JV Sdn Bhd, apologises to residents near the site for noise caused by the 24-hour boring of piles for the structure for the next six months.
Project manager Liu Yonghuiin a statement yesterday said they have been authorised by the state government, Public Works Department, Bintulu Development Authority and other agencies to work 24 hours until completion of the work.
“This will cause inconvenience for the residents living and working nearby. Fortunately most residents have shown their support for this iconic project. The company will try to adjust the piling schedule and reduce the level of noise.”
Liu said they are facing challenges of soft soil condition and high water levels at the project site.
He said the bored pile work must utilise rotary drilling rig to dig a hole with at least 1 metre diametre and depth of 40 metres to 65 metres.
Then the reinforcement cage approximately 12-metre long will be lowered into the hole and, then the hole will be filled with concrete.
“The non-stop work on one pile will need approximately three to 10 days based on the soil and environmental conditions.
“To prevent the bored hole from collapse and for safety reasons, the bored pile work is scheduled to work around the clock for six months,” he added.
The contract value for the Bintulu-Jepak bridge is RM 466,679,497.
The project started on April3 this year and is expected to be completed on April 2, 2023.
Once completed, the route from Bintulu Town to Airport will be reduced from 25km to 10km and bring more growth to the Jepak area.
