KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit says plans are being made to carry out agriculture activities on idle land here as part of efforts to boost the income of local folk.

He said with the upgrading of infrastructure and amenities being the focus over the past two years, the next step was to come up with ways to help the people here generate income.

“The focus (then) was on road connectivity. I am very happy that all the longhouses along the main road are now linked, and also have 24-hour electricity supply as well as clean water.

“Our next focus is on socio-economic development where we plan to convert idle land for agriculture activities to generate income,” Jamit said when contacted yesterday.

He said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when visiting Kapit two years ago, had approved the setting up of Upper Rajang Development Agency and allocated RM1.5 billion to develop infrastructure and amenities here for the year 2019-2020.

Meanwhile, Jamit and Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi conducted a working visit to Rumah Empawi Sawa near Ulu Sungai Yong here over the weekend to inspect a newly-completed cement access road.

The road, which links the longhouse to Jalan Ulu Sungai Yong, was built at a cost of RM200,000 under Jamit’s Rural Transformation Project allocation.

During a meet-the-people session at the longhouse later the same day, Tuai Rumah Empawi on behalf of his charges pledged support to Nanta and Jamit as their elected representatives.
