MIRI: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) is annoyed with the lack of warning signs to alert road users regarding the undergoing sewerage construction works along Jalan Bulan Sabit Merah.

According to PBK member Leslie Ting, the road is a very busy one.

“The condition of the road is unacceptable, dangerous, and has put all the road users at risk. It is extremely hard and dangerous to drive on the road because of the lack of road lights, hazard signs, and speed warnings, especially on rainy days and during the night,” he complained in a press statement yesterday.

Ting chided Miri City Council (MCC) for its handling of safety at the site, which has undergone sewerage works for more than a year.

He urged MCC to prioritise safety in the area by including a reasonable number of warning signs and temporary street lights for the night and on rainy days.

“There have been many cases of car accidents on the road, especially during rainy days and during the night, because of the bad condition of the road,” he claimed.

He also claimed the authorities concerned could be liable for negligence for any personal injuries occurred along the stretch.

When contacted, an MCC engineering department spokesperson said he will relate the complaint to the relevant department.
