SIBU: Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) has approved an extra trip for the Sibu/Song/Kapit sector ahead of the Christmas holidays.

On Sunday, the Sibu Express Boat Terminal handled 2,713 passengers, comprising 1,199 on arrival and 1,514 set for departures.

During an observation yesterday, there were larger crowds at the terminal than those seen over the past several days.

Phase 1 of SRB’s ‘Christmas-2020 School Reopening Enforcement Operation’ concludes today, to be continued with Phase II, which will kick off this Dec 31.

In a reminder, Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil advised riverine transport operators and passengers to always make standard safety procedures their top priority.

“Our SRB enforcement officers are being extra vigilant, as it is still the ‘landas’ (monsoon) season. We want everyone to comply with all the regulations, to prevent any untoward incident from occurring,” he said.
