KUALA LUMPUR: The bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Bahrain is set to soar even higher with the inaugural flight of Gulf Air to Kuala Lumpur by July next year, says Charge d’ Affaires of the Bahrain embassy to Malaysia, Maram Anwar Jaafar Al-Saleh.
The envoy said with the carrier, Bahrain and Malaysia will benefit through tourist arrivals from the surrounding Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
“The opening of Gulf Air will see many potential tourists from Bahrain visiting Malaysia…even the tourists from Gulf countries will be more encouraged to board the airlines to Malaysia as it is cheap.
“This (opening of the Gulf Air) to Malaysia sets a good benchmark for the bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Bahrain, given that next year would be Visit Malaysia Year (VMY),” she told Bernama in an exclusive interview at Wisma Bernama recently.
Gulf Air recently revealed that Kuala Lumpur is a new addition to its 2020 network’s destination. Commencing from July 2020 with daily flights, the route will be operated by the airline’s flagship Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
On another note, the envoy said Malaysia and Bahrain will hold more political consultations as part of efforts to strengthen their bilateral ties which was initiated in 1974, with the opening of the new Bahrain embassy here which was operational since July 19 this year (2019).
“Bahrain, being a gateway for Gulf countries is a free trade country with low tax rates besides having highly educated human resources which are conducive for Malaysian businessmen to invest,” she said. — Bernama
