MIRI: Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri District’s first mobile blood donation campaign of the year at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall on Jan 12 recorded a total of 69 successful donors out of 109 registered participants with 19 new donors.

Its Blood Donors Recruitment Committee (BDRC) deputy chairman cum publicity officer Karambir Singh said support from members of the public is crucial in replenishing the blood stock to achieve 8,000 pints every year.

“The World Health Organisation’s goal is for all countries to obtain all blood supplies through voluntary unpaid donors.

“In Miri, we are proud to have achieved 30 years of 100 per cent voluntary non-remunerated blood donation. We credit this to all donors who are part of this achievement,” said Karambir.

He added that last year alone, a total of 8,642 pints were collected with 75 per cent collected through mobile blood donation campaigns by MRC, as well as corporate and non-profit organisations.

Karambir revealed that MRC’s next blood donation campaign will be held on Feb 15.

MRC Miri District chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan presented certificates of appreciation to successful donors.
