MIRI: Sarawak will always be a small part of the nation and only Pakatan Harapan (PH) which has proved to be a better government than the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) can change this.
In stating this, Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon said Sarawak has been a sleeping giant in Malaysia for over 50 years and there is a need to change the scenario.
“One thing that I would like to remind everyone is that under GPS, Sarawak will always be a small part of the nation. Only Pakatan Harapan can make changes. Pakatan Harapan has been treating Sarawak very well and we also have more funding. Changes will be there with Pakatan Harapan which is much better than the GPS government,” he said.
“Come state election, think about what we want to do for our country, our children, and our community. That is really important,” he added.
Dr Ting expects the state election to be held in second half of this year.
“This is a very short time, we do need to work hard and need everyone to help, not just the YBs (people’s representatives) as we cannot do everything, we need every one of you to work hard and change the government.
“So do not give up,” he said.
Dr Ting was speaking at the ‘Sambutan Tahun Baru 2020 Bersama Rakyat’ organised by Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP) Sungai Teniku and Democratic Action Party (DAP) Miri at Rumah Nanta, Jalan Miri-Marudi Saturday evening.
Commenting further, Dr Ting emphasised that the future of Dayak community is in their own hands.
“Next election, if you want to help the Dayak community and fellow Sarawakians, we need to get rid of GPS. Under GPS, the Dayak community will continuously be side-lined and will never catch up,” he said.
“We started with a Dayak chief minister but we have not had a Dayak chief minister for over 50 years.
“There is great potential for the Dayak community in Sarawak. We have a lot of potential but we are not doing anything with it or using it well,” he added.
The event also witnessed the launching of the Sungai Teniku MPKKP.
“There are a lot of misunderstandings among the Dayak community and Sarawakians with regards to MPKKP. GPS has been telling everyone that MPKKP is dividing the Dayak community and the longhouses. That is not true,” he said.
Dr Ting said one of the reasons for the establishment of MPKKP is so that Pakatan Harapan can have representation in the community.
“Sarawak government has not allowed the village security and development committees (JKKKs) to attend any of the Pakatan Harapan functions.
“GPS cannot do that and this is not good for Sarawak. We need to change and the only way to change is to vote for Pakatan Harapn in the next state election.
“Get rid of GPS and I think Sarawak will progress very well,” he added.
On a relevant matter, Dr Ting said he had been trying very hard to go to the rural areas to help the rural community.
“But GPS said I speak too much. YB Marudi said that I speak too much and I mind too much of their business and that I have to mind my own Pujut area.
“But if I don’t go to Marudi and Ulu Baram, who is going to talk for you,” he said.
