MIRI: Sports Toto brought festive cheer to 180 senior citizens during its annual Chinese New Year Angpow Donation Campaign at Miri Che Sing Khor Moral Uplifting Society’s multi-purpose hall yesterday.

According to Sports Toto East Malaysia regional executive Henry Liew, the recipients of the angpows and hampers under this campaign are needy elderly folk, aged 60 and above, regardless of race and religion.

“The recipients who register through our outlets are mostly those who noticed the poster that we had displayed. There are also those who were introduced by the people who knew about our campaign.

“Either way, we welcome those who are in need, as we hope to spread as much love to as many (people) as possible,” said Liew.

The angpow campaign is a six-day donation programme, which had kicked off on Jan 9 – targeting 50 cities and towns nationwide, and meant to benefit senior citizens in need.

“Through the campaign, Sports Toto aims to achieve the objective of instilling in everyone positive values such as respecting and caring for the elderly people.”

Since the inception of this campaign in 1988, Sports Toto has contributed over RM22 million, which has benefitted 410,000 senior citizens nationwide.

This campaign is run under Sports Toto’s major ‘Helping Hands’ programme, which has been carrying out various corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects throughout the year.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, Sports Toto believes that festive seasons are the best time for reaching out to the underprivileged folk,” said Liew.

Apart from contributions during festive occasions, Sports Toto also contributes substantial amounts annually to the National Sports Council and several sports events run by local sports associations, aimed at encouraging the development of the nation’s sports talents.

The event yesterday also hosted Sports Toto’s Miri area sales officer Gan Hong Seng and Sports Toto’s IT support manager (Kuala Lumpur) Ho Boon Choy.

In a separate occasion, representatives of Sports Toto Miri recently visited See Hua Daily News and The Borneo Post offices here, as an appreciative gesture for the frequent publicity given by the two newspapers.

“Sports Toto appreciates the publicity and support rendered by the mainstream media, particularly in highlighting our CSR projects.

“We look forward to a more exciting year ahead with many more programmes,” said Liew.
