KUCHING: Seven individuals were arrested during a raid on a house at Kampung Tijirak in Siburan near here late Monday.
The group of men, aged between 38 and 60, were playing ‘holo’ (local gambling game), when police ambushed the premises.
Padawan District police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the operation was set up, based on a public tip-off about illegal gambling activity in the village.
“The men were busy playing the ‘holo’ when my arrived at the house.
“All seven are being detained at Siburan police station lockup to facilitate the investigation under Section 7(2) of Common Gaming Houses Act 1953,” he said in a press statement issued here yesterday.
Aidil added that among the items seized from the house in Kampung Tijirak were the ‘holo’ board piece, three dices and the dice-shaking container, as well as cash amounting to RM170.
