SIBU: A long queue along the Sibu-Bintulu roundabout leading to the town yesterday due to a road closure prompted road users to take to social media to vent their frustrations.

When contacted by The Borneo Post, Pelawan assemblyman David Wong said the contractor involved had assured him that the stretch of road closed for improvements was later reopened to road users.

However, he said the interchange would close again this morning for further improvement work.

Quoting the WhatsApp message sent from the contractor, Wong said, “Yes YB. Already back to normal but still using gravel road as we (can) only manage to lay the premix tomorrow (Saturday) morning.”

Wong added, “We do understand the frustration of the road users but sometimes in order to improve that stretch of road, certain portion has to be closed and traffic diverted.”

That particular stretch of road was closed on Thursday morning but reopened with temporary gravel at 5pm the same day.

It was closed again yesterday morning, resulting in the traffic congestion.
