Miri to host national conference on early childhood intervention in June

MIRI: The National Early Childhood Intervention Council (NECIC) Conference 2020 will take place at the Imperial Hotel here this June 5 to 7.

Running from 8am to 8pm, this event will be highlighting children with special needs, and also linking the parents with the professionals from the health, educational and social welfare sectors.

NECIC Conference 2020 organising chairwoman Liza Chai said that this year’s edition would expect to host internationally-recognised early childhood intervention, disability and childhood education professionals from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and the US.

The eighth NECIC conference is organised by Miri Sunflower Centre, in cooperation with Association for Children with Special Needs (Sibu), Malaysian Christian Association for Relief (Malaysian Care), Association of Parents of Children with Special Needs (Pibakis) Miri, University College of Technology Sarawak; and also supported by Sarawak Convention Bureau.

Attendance to the seminar and workshops is open to medical and education professionals caring for children, including those with special needs, early childhood education teachers, ECI workers, social welfare personnel, community-based rehabilitation staff members, as well as parents of children with special needs.

Minister of Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah has been invited to officiate at the conference’s official opening ceremony this June 5, while the federal Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Hannah Yeoh is expected to perform the closing ceremony on June 7.

Registration to the conference is now open, via three different packages.

The early bird’s fee is available until this Feb 1, where each participant from private sector, government officer of above Grade 52 and overseas need to pay RM300; any member of the kindergarten staff, NGO and government officer below Grade 52 need pay RM160; NECIC member (RM140); and any parent of children with special needs, or a full-time undergraduate student (RM120).

The regular fee, in effect from Feb 1 to Apr 30, is RM450 per participant from private sector, government officer of above Grade 52 and overseas; RM340 per member of kindergarten staff, NGOs and government officer below Grade 52; RM300 per NECIC member; and RM250 per parent of children with special needs, or per full-time undergraduate students.

For late registration fee, namely those received after May 1 this year, RM500 will apply to each participant from the private sectors, government officer of above and below Grade 52 and overseas, kindergarten staff, NGOs, the NECIC and among the undergraduate students; and RM300 to each parent of children with special needs.
