KUALA LUMPUR: Pupils in Sabah and Sarawak were not left out of the Enhanced Supplementary Food Programme (ESFP) which began yesterday.
The initiative by the Education Ministry received positive response from the public, with even members of the Parents-Teachers’ Associations (PTA) joining in to play their part to ensure that all the eligible pupils in the affected schools enjoyed the food.
In Sarawak, state education director Dr Azhar Ahmad said 2,704 pupils were selected from 10 schools for the programme.
These schools were Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tambirat, SK Penghulu Imban, SK Long Lapok, SK Spoah, SK Tuanku Bagus, SK Koran, SK Abg Haji Matahir, SK Kampung Seberang, SK Abang Leman, and Sekolah Kebangsaan Jenis Cina Chung Hua, Sungai Moyan.
He said at SK Tambirat, Samarahan, the PTA took the opportunity to provide free breakfast to all pupils, regardless of whether they were eligible for the programme or not.
“Even though only 303 pupils were eligible, on the initiative of the PTA, all the students enjoyed free breakfast,” Azhar said.
In Sabah, state education director Dr Mistirine Radin said 5,423 pupils from 13 primary schools benefited from the programme.
He said the schools were SK Kebagu, SK Kulambai, SK Tandek, SK ST James (M), SK Pinggan-Pinggan, SK Binsulok, SK Kundasang, SK Penangah, SK Bukit Garam, SK Kabogan, SK Umas-Umas, SK Nambayan and SK Pekan Nabawan. — Bernama
