SIBU: The redevelopment of Kampung Datu will turn the village into the largest traditional village in Sarawak, says Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapa’ee.

He said this when met by reporters at the presentation of donation to Kampung Datu Sibu Residents Association on Monday.

He added that almost 300 lots would be involved in the village redevelopment.

“The houses will be built fully equipped with infrastructure facilities such as drains, sanitation, and a waterfront to make them more conducive and comfortable to live in.

The redevelopment process will be undertaken by Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), and the type of houses to be built will depend on the land size.

“There is also a financing formula, but it will not burden the owners in paying for the loan,” he said.

Dr Annuar assured the villagers that they would not be relocated to other places except for those with land lots of less than 4 points, who would be relocated to Kampung Datu Baru.

“For others, they will be given land lots in Kemunyang so that no one from Kampung Datu is not left out from having a comfortable house,” he said.

Meanwhile, the association chairman Awang Madohi Awang Sukaiman said they have more than 120 members.

“Our objective is to create unity, understanding, respect and closer relationships between the villagers.

“We also act as a liaison between the villagers and the government and private sectors,” he said.
