KUCHING: Dato Wan Abdillah Edruce Wan Abdul Rahman, the grandson of former Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Bujang, has joined Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) as a member of the party.

He said he decided to join PSB because he foresees the party as a “new force in the political arena” and that he believes in party president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh’s leadership and vision.

“Based on my observations, PSB led by its president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh has been moving into coastal areas and the interiors where in addition to their efforts in rural socio-economic development, they have also been trying to get those who are people-centric to join the party and fight alongside them,” he said in a statement today.

He said PSB is a great platform for those who want to fight for the good of Sarawakians, particularly the urban poor and rural people.

“As PSB is still a new party, I believe that Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is receptive to new ideas from defenders of the people in PSB.

“A new party needs new ideas and a new aura to shine for the people of Sarawak,” he said.

As an independent social activist who has been serving the people throughout Sarawak for the past nine years, Wan Abdillah said he has seen the light at the end of the tunnel for Sarawak to move forward and to be more aggressive in the future.

“Sarawakians needs to seize this opportunity for the future of their children and grandchildren.

“The existence of several new political parties can also serve as a platform to bring Sarawak to an era where people can finally get what they’ve been dreaming for all this while and that is to have a fair and equitable distribution of wealth for the people of Sarawak,” he remarked.

He said since the defeat of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the last general election, the people have seen many changes in the Sarawak political landscape.

He pointed out that these changes are seen as a great opportunity for Sarawakians to re-evaluate the performance of Sarawak leaders and who they think are qualified to be given the new mandate.

“In fact, there is no good or bad political party. No matter how good a party is, if the constituents are represented by an under-performed elected representative, believe me, your constituency will continue to fall behind.

“Even if there is development, trust me when I say that it is not commensurate with the wealth that our kingdom has ‘inherited’ from our beloved land,” he said.

Meanwhile, a PSB source told The Borneo Post that Wan Abdillah has joined the party and will be a PSB candidate in the state election due next year.

“He’s a social worker who has been carrying out a lot of charitable work for a long time,” said the source.
