MIRI: The General Operations Force (GOF) 12th Battalion has arrested a man in his 50s and seized several species of wildlife estimated to be worth RM30,150 from his business premises here on Wednesday (Jan 22).

The operation leading to the arrest, dubbed Ops Bersepadu Khazanah (OBK), was led by ASP Ho Chee Kun and Insp Mohd Rayhan Albert following a tip-off.

“The team raided a premise in Miri. After introducing himself as a police officer to the premise owner, the complainant made an inspection of the premises and found various species of wildlife protected under the Sarawak Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998,” the force said in a Facebook post today.

“The owner then failed to produce any valid documents and permits for all the animals in the premises,” it added.

The wildlife species that were seized during the operation include four magpie robins (burung murai kampung), one lovebird parrot, one hanging parrot (burung serindit), two common hill mynas (burung tiong mas), three burung kapas tembak, three white-rumped shamas (burung murai batu), two zebra doves (burung merbuk balam), two sugar gliders, and one burung merbuk siam.

“The estimated total value of the seizure is RM30,150,” it revealed.

The suspect has been arrested and all animals seized and handed over to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation Miri Branch for further action and investigation under Section 29 of the Sarawak Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998.
