Police arrest five suspects after discovery of RM5,600 worth of drugs

The drugs that were seized from the suspects in Kampung Sadong Jaya Laut yesterday.

KUCHING: Five male suspects were arrested following the discovery of drugs believed to be syabu worth about RM5,600 at a house in Kampung Sadong Jaya Laut, Asajaya yesterday.

Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department (NCID) head Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid in a statement today, said the suspects, all from Kampung Sadong Jaya are aged between 26 and 63-years-old.

“During the 12.30pm raid, the suspects were loitering in front of the house. As soon as they realised the presence of the police, one of them threw an object onto the roof of the neighbour’s house,” said Hasnir.

Police who tracked down the object, managed to retrieve a plastic container. Inside the container were three straw tubes containing crystal like substances believed to be syabu weighing at 0.29 grammes.

He also said a search was conducted at the house’s compound which saw another container containing 11 straw tubes and five plastic packets of drugs believed to be syabu weighing at 4.18 grammes were found.

“Police also found a pouch next to the house’s front door which contained six plastic packets of drugs believed to be syabu weighing at 32.91 grammes,” he added.

During a drug test, two of the suspects, a 26 and a 30-year-old tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

He also revealed that four of the suspects are jobless while two of them are working as a labourer.

The case will be investigated under Section 39A(2), Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
