14,147 old crime investigation papers destroyed

SIBU: A total of 14,147 old crime investigation papers from 1979 until 1990 at Sibu Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were disposed of yesterday.

The disposal was held at an oil palm mill in Kabang Land District, Batang Igan near here.

Present to witness the disposal were Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit and Sibu CID chief DSP Hadian Keria.

The papers were destroyed using an incinerator.

Physical assessment of the records was done on Nov 26 and 27 last year by National Archives Kuching.

Following a meeting, approval for the disposal of the records under Section 25 and Section 26 of National Archives Act 2003 (Act 629) was given on Dec 12.

According to National Archives, the disposal of the papers is the biggest in the country so far.

Sibu police headquarters is the first in Sarawak to dispose of investigation papers.
