LAWAS: The police here seized contraband firecrackers and liquors of various brands worth RM43,000 from a store at Kampung Melusok, Jalan Punang, on Wednesday.

The operation, which started at 11am, was led by Lawas District police chief DSP Roslan Leman. Several officers from the Criminal Investigation Division also tagged along.

Roslan said the seizure was made following a six-hour surveillance.

“We saw no one in and outside the store. After six hours we had to break open the store to gain entry.

“Inside, we found seven types of firecrackers and eight types of liquor worth RM43,000, without duties being paid,” he said in a statement.

The items were then taken to the Lawas Police Station for further investigation under the Customs Act 1967, and the Explosives Act 1958.

The confiscated items are being loaded into a police vehicle to be sent to the police station.
