KUCHING: A 63-year-old man was among five villagers arrested by police for possessing methamphetamine during a police raid in Asajaya on Wednesday.

The men, all from Kampung Sadong Jaya, were caught at a house in Kampung Sadong Jaya Laut around 12.30pm and later found with RM5,600 worth of the drug, said Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department head Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid.

“During the raid, the suspects were loitering in front of the house and upon realising the presence of police, one of them threw an object onto the roof of the neighbour’s house,” Hasnir said in a statement yesterday.

He said police recovered the object – a container – on the roof and found it contained three straw tubes filled with substance believed to be syabu.

A search of the house compound uncovered a second container which had inside it 11 straw tubes and five packets of syabu, while a pouch found next to the front door of the house held six packets of syabu, he added.

He said the weight of the drugs found was about 37.4 grammes.

“A drug test found two of the suspects, aged 26 and 30, positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.”

Hasnir said the five, who are either jobless or working as labourers, will be investigated under sections 39A(2), 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
