SIBU: Tailor Banun Sebri from Kampung Hilir here has found a surge in her business thanks to Facebook.

In the past, the 60-year-old said she previously only received up to 15 orders for Chinese New Year.

This changed a few years ago when she started a Facebook page for her business with the help of her son Mohd Iswandi Wan Sapuan Daud.

“It seems that our number of customers has encouragingly increased to double,” she said when met on Wednesday.

“It is not only for Chinese New Year, but also for other festive seasons such as Hari Raya, Gawai Dayak, Christmas, and Deepavali.”

She said technology has also made it easier for new customers to locate her business.

“Our customers who might not have known our location can easily track us through Google Maps,” she said.

“Thus, to continue to progress in today’s fast changing world we have to adapt to technology because only people who adapt themselves to today’s technology can survive. In other words, if we want to stay in business, we have to adapt to any changes around us.”

Banun’s customers are not only from Sibu, but also from as far as Kuching, Bintulu, and Miri.

She has been in the business since 1989.
