KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie Apdal (pic) said that he had sent a letter to Home Affairs Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the State Cabinet’s decision to cancel the implementation of the Sabah Temporary Pass or PSS (Pas Sementara Sabah).

Shafie said that he had also spoken to Muhyiddin on the phone last night (Wednesday) and that the Federal Cabinet had already met on the matter.

The Chief Minister said that he was sure that the Federarl Cabine would base its decision on the State Cabinet’s decision and would have the PSS cancelled.

He also told reporters when visiting the Sabah International Convention Centre yesterday that the decision made was based on what the people wanted.

“It is not by an individual, nor do we base it on the pressure from anyone through demonstration and their voice. We see this as a step that has already been done by the last government but with some improvement from the recommendation of the RCI (Royal Commission of Inquiry) that is available. But we listened to the voice of the people through the result of the by-election (Kimanis by-election on Jan 18) and it was clear,” he said of the people’s desire.

However, Shafie said that they could not please everyone and that there were demands from various groups of people.

Nevertheless, the people have conveyed their worries and the government must ensure the issue is addressed, he said.

“That is why we decided to listen to the people and we decided and we cancelled (PSS).”
