MIRI: Three Indonesian crew members onboard a local fishing vessel were detained by the maritime authority after they were found to have breached the conditions of their licence.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Miri director
Captain Md Fauzi Othman said the vessel was detained around 7am Wednesday about 6.9 nautical miles off Pantai Bakam.

“The vessel was stopped during an MMEA patrol and upon inspection was found to be fishing less than 12 nautical miles away from the coast, which breached the conditions contained in their licence,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Md Fauzi said the three men, who all had proper identification documents, are being investigated for violating the Fisheries Act 1985.

He said MMEA welcomes information from the maritime community on any unlawful activities, which can be channelled directly to them by calling 085-418204.
