KOTA KINABALU: State Water Department director Datuk Amarjit Singh yesterday clarified that the current water problem at Taman Sri Rugading in Tuaran is an internal problem.

Amarjit, who went to the Public Housing Project (PPR) on Wednesday with the department’s divisional engineer Suhaimi Asbullah following many complaints from the residents, said water supply to the housing tanks was sufficient enough to supply the entire flats.

However, he said there might be some problem in the system of management of water distributions.

“We cannot go into the flat to check what is happening inside because our jurisdiction is only the water supply in the tanks outside the area.

“Meanwhile, distribution of water to every block of the hosing area is under the management’s responsibilities,” he said.

One of the residents, who is staying in Block J of the PPR, said their block is one of the worst as there is no water since three weeks ago.

The civil servant, who refused to be named, said they had to carry water from the pipe near the rubbish collection centre, while some of them had to buy bottled water from the shop.

“We applied for the house because of the cheap rental, but it is frustrating because we are now spending 10 times from the rental fee for extra expenses.

“Since no water in our block, we have to buy bottled water, cooked food and also pay the laundry.

“Most of the men of the houses are working during the day, so the wives have to carry all these things up and down. Some of them just delivered baby,” he said.

With the polio case detected in Tuaran recently, he also said that it is worrying because they have to make sure their toilet and hands are clean all the time.

“We paid around RM20 monthly although there is no water to our block. I don’t know what we are paying for.

“There are times when the water reaches our houses but will last within an hour or two. This has been our major problem since last year,” he said.

He added there are other blocks facing the same problem, while the rest are receiving water only two or three days in a week.

When they asked from the management, he said that they were giving same problem – water pressure is not strong.

“They obviously know the problem but no action taken to fully solve it.

“I hope the relevant ministry will look into this matter seriously. We had enough,” he added.
