KUCHING: The police have issued a total of 138 traffic summonses for various offences during a roadblock at Jalan Simpang Tiga last night.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement said a total of 427 vehicles were checked between 8pm to 12am.

“Among the summons being issued were offences related to modified exhausts, driving without insurance or roadtax, faulty brake lights and headlights which are too bright,” he added.

The four-hour operation, he said, was carried out to ensure safety among road users and to enforce traffic laws during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

He added that the operation could also help to deter other crimes such as drug abuse in the city area.

“Road users are advised to abide the traffic laws to avoid being penalised by the police especially during the ‘Ops Selamat’ period,” he added.

The roadblock was conducted by the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department together with personnel from the Kuching, Padawan and Kota Samarahan police districts, as well as members of the Criminal Investigations Department and Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.
