LIMBANG: Police yesterday confirmed that the body found floating in Sungai Limbang near the Batu Miris cemetery on Tuesday was that of a 58-year-old man who had been reported missing two days earlier.
District police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the deceased was identified as Damit Aman, 58, of Kampung Ulak by his elder brother Buang through photos of the body shown to him on Wednesday.
“The body was found minus both legs and right arm – believed to be the result of a crocodile attack.
“Based on the condition of the body, it is believed the victim died at least 48 hours prior to the body being found,” Abang Zainal Abidin said in a press statement yesterday.
He said Buang was informed of his brother’s disappearance by a man who was supposed to meet Damit to purchase bananas.
“Buang then went to search for Damit but found he was not at home.
“He then checked the nearby river and found the victim’s slippers there,” said the OCPD, adding Damit was a bachelor who lived alone.
A group of fishermen stumbled upon Damit’s remains on Tuesday evening and immediately alerted police who, with assistance from firemen, retrieved the body and brought it to Limbang Hospital.
