MARUDI: Ten police summonses and nine notices from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) were issued to motorists for various offences during a joint operation, which covered Jalan Miri-Marudi  on Thursday evening.

Marudi District Police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division chief Insp G Visvanathan, who led the ‘Ops Bersepadu’, said his men and several enforcement personnel from JPJ Miri set up road blocks along the stretch, and manned them from 2pm to 6pm.

“The main objective of the operation is to ensure that the operators of lorries carrying oil palm fruits and other heavy vehicles follow the rules and regulations, including not to overload their vehicles, which would pose danger to other road users,” said Visvanathan.

He also advised every motorist to always respect and abide by all traffic rules, such as maintaining driving speed in accordance to those indicated on the signboards placed along the road.
