Befrienders KK saddened by young mother jumping to her death with baby

KOTA KINABALU: Befrienders Kota Kinabalu is saddened by the report about a young mother who jumped down the hospital building with her baby.

Its publicity officer, Jessie Ting in a press statement yesterday said, anyone who took this decision to end their lives must be having tremendous emotional pain and sufferings that made them feel there’s no help available.

“Befrienders Kota Kinabalu provides free phone helplines in Bahasa Malaysia and English to anyone who needs emotional help, stressed or depressed or wanting to know if they’re experiencing mental illness and depressive symptoms,” she said.

Jessie added Helplines are operated by trained volunteers.

“We would like to urge everyone to learn to recognise or know the signs and symptoms of a depressive person. If anyone is affected by this news or know anyone who may need help, please give them our Helpline numbers.

“Befrienders KK also wants to advise media and citizens not to post photos of the victims on viral to prevent copycats and also to respect the dignity of the dead,” she concluded.
