TYT, CM among guests at PDP’s CNY open house

BINTULU: Some 5,000 people attended the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Chinese New Year open house at the civic centre here yesterday.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, former TYT Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng and his wife Toh Puan Norkiah were among the guests.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing, Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip, and Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing were also present.

The event started with the ‘yee sang’ tossing ceremony by Taib and other dignitaries.

It was followed by various cultural and singing performances representing the various ethnic groups in Sarawak.

The chief minister and his entourage later continued their CNY visit to the residences of local community leaders and prominent businessmen in Bintulu.

Among those they visited were president of Bintulu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yek Siew Liong, Pemanca Datuk Francis Toh Chiew Peng, Temenggong Datuk Barry Yek Siew Hui, president of Federation of Registered Chinese Association Chin Chee Fui and Penghulu Dato Chai Shong Phian.
