Dr Annuar: 2,500 GPS members expected at GPS Sibu zone launch

SIBU: Some 2,500 members of component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) are expected to attend the launching of GPS Sibu zone by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Sibu Civic Centre on Saturday (Feb 8).

Assistant Minister for Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee said that the GPS Sibu zone comprises of Bawang Assan, Nangka, Bukit Assek, Pelawan and Dudong areas.

“This is part of the statewide launching of GPS and this time is Sibu’s turn,” he said in a press conference at the Nangka Service Centre here today.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health, said Abang Johari is expected to arrive at the Civic Centre at 10am and then proceed for a walkabout at the Sibu Central Market around 11am.

“While there, Abang Johari will have ‘kampua mee’ with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Sibu. About 200 NGOs here are expected to join him there,” Dr Annuar revealed.

Dr Annuar, who is also Nangka assemblyman, added that the police and Rela (People’s Volunteer Corps) would be on hand to assist with the traffic flow at the Civic Centre and Sibu Central Market.

In this regard, he advised members of the public to take note of expected increase in traffic at both areas on that day.
