SEREMBAN: Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo is leaving it to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to issue a statement on the controversy involving cosmetics entrepreneur Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman.

The minister said he believed that the MCMC, as the regulatory body of the communications and multimedia industry, is more aware of the status of investigation or decision made on the issue.

“Anybody can lodge a report to the police or the MCMC, but it is totally up to those authorities to act on it or not. It’s under their jurisdiction.

“If there is any statement to be issued, let it be by the MCMC because they know the status of the investigation or decision made on the issue. We at ministry’s level,  will just let them investigate into the case according to the law,” he told reporters here yesterday after attended the “Info On Wheel” programme in Pasar Besar Seremban.

Gobind said this when asked about the action to be taken by MCMC against Muhammad Sajjad after photos and video of him in telekung or female prayer garment while performing umrah went viral on social media, causing anger and concern among the public.

On Tuesday, Minister at Prime Minister Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof said he is still waiting for MCMC and Albayt Travel (M) Sdn Bhd travel agency to take action against Muhammad Sajjad. —  Bernama
