KUCHING: Over 100 children from Perkata Special School at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee attended ‘Love-In-A Box’ programme organised by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and its subsidiaries recently.

SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz  Husain, senior management, staff members from the state agency and its subsidiaries as well the children’s parents also attended the event.

In his speech, Abdul Aziz thanked Persatuan Bagi Kebajikan Kanak Kanak Terencat Akal (Perkata) Sarawak for collaborating with SEDC and its subsidiaries to hold the annual Corporate Social Responsibility event.

He said this year’s event was dedicated to school children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), cerebral palsy, development delay, down syndrome and intellectual disability.

“The main beneficiaries of our annual Love-In-A-Box programme are children in need of  support and attention in view of the shortcomings they are facing in life.

“It is also dedicated to parents of these special children. We hope the handing over of goodies and red packets will bring them some happiness,” he said.

Abdul Aziz shared that Love-In-A Box programme which was launched in 2000 became an annual event since 2004. This 16th edition involved 1,600 less privileged people.

“It is also heartening for us to see encouraging response to Love-In-A Box programme and this has actually motivated us,” he said.

Among those who were present were SEDC general manager Abdul Hadi Datuk Abdul Kadir, his deputies Edwin Abit and Rakayah Hamdan as well as department heads and chief executive officers from the various subsidiaries.

Perkata Sarawak was represented by its secretary-general, Noor Afyza Abdullah.
