Man killed, brother seriously hurt as car crashes into lorry

BINTULU: A man was killed after a car driven by his younger brother crashed into the rear of a lorry at Mile 16 Jalan Bintulu-Miri on Saturday night.

Police have identified the deceased as Layang Munang, 47, from Sungai Plan, Jalan Tanjung Kidurong.

District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department head Inspector Jeffery Jembol said the incident, which happened around 7.50pm, had also left the younger sibling, 39, with serious head
injuries.

“Both vehicles were travelling towards Miri when the accident happened.

“The impact killed the car passenger on the spot and left the driver with serious head injuries.

“The lorry driver was unhurt,” said Jeffery, adding the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Local firefighters were involved in extricating the brothers from their wrecked car.
