SIBU: A total of 123 villagers were left homeless after a pre-dawn fire destroyed their 22-door Rh Dingon Megong at Sekuau resettlement scheme in KM45, Oya Road here today.
According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, they received a distress call at 3.26am.
A team of firemen from Sungai Merah and central stations immediately sprung into action.
“Upon reaching the scene, it was noted that the longhouse has been completely destroyed,” it said.
The fire was brought under control at 5.05am and completely extinguished at 6.45am, it added.
There was no report of casualty. The cause of fire and losses are still being investigated.
