BACHOK: The marketability rate of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) graduates increased to 73 per cent last year, compared to 53 per cent the previous year, thus placing the university at the fourth rank of the top 20 public universities in the country.

UMK deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli said a big number of the graduates were employed in corporate sector, in line with the university entrepreneurship theme.

“There are graduates who have landed jobs overseas, particularly in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Middle East countries,” he told Bernama after handing over prizes to the winners of the UMK Unique Trail Run programme here yesterday.

Zaliman said there were graduates who had started their own businesses including 17 veterinary medicine graduates.

Apart from that, he said there were graduates who received lucrative salary of between RM20,000 and RM30,000 monthly.

“They do not include those who are still pursuing their studies but earn about RM10,000 per month from their online businesses,” he said.

To date, Zaliman said UMK had produced about 9,000 graduates. — Bernama
