KUCHING: Police arrested a 24-year-old man yesterday for alleged possession of drugs believed to be methamphetamine, or syabu.
According to Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, the man was arrested by the Padawan Narcotics Crime Investigation Department in front of a house in Taman Alamanda, Taman Malihah here at around 6pm.
After conducting a body search, they found the suspect carrying a large plastic packet weighing 5.25 grammes containing nine smaller packets of a crystalline substance believed to be syabu and he was subsequently detained.
Police initial investigations revealed that he was believed to have been involved in drug abuse activities for the past three years, and obtained his drugs via ATM machine transactions before collecting the drugs at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho here.
The man was arrested under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act.
It was revealed that he has past records under Section 379(A) and Section 324 of the Penal Code.
The man is currently being remanded.
