A concerned netizen posts online a photo showing the ‘cracked’ section of the road.
Soil nails are being drilled into the ground, and retaining walls are being constructed.
MIRI: Photos of cracked road surface at Canada Hill, which is undergoing maintenance and repair works by Public Works Department (JKR), have gone viral.
The concerned netizen posted the photo yesterday to alert road users driving along the stretch and going down Jalan Lopeng.
A check with JKR Miri divisional engineer Chong Chi Fam verified the works on the road was still in progress.
“JKR is aware of the road condition and will make sure that the road would be safe for use,” said Chong.
Currently, JKR is in the midst of drilling 140 long steel soil nails designed by specialists from the Slope Engineering Division, into depths of 11m, aimed at stabilising the slopes.
A retaining wall is also being built to contain the soil and avoid landslides on the hill – works are set to reach completion by mid-March this year.
Chong added that the road surface would be levelled with crusher run, and JKR would also speed up the works on the retaining wall.
The RM1.44-million project, funded by JKR and monitored by JKR Sarawak, commenced in mid-September last year.
