A firefighter ensures the flames are fully put at the workers’ quarters.

BINTULU: The Emergency Response Team (ERT) of an oil palm estate in Kuala Tatau was no match for a fast spreading fire at the workers’ quarters on Wednesday.

As first responders, the team used water from a tanker to put out the flames, but the fire quickly levelled the six units to the ground.

In a statement, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak operations centre said a distress call was received at 11.05am.

A total of 14 firefighters from Bintulu and Tatau fire stations in two fire engines were dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, the fire had already been put under control by the ERT team.

Firefighters only carried out overhaul works to ensure the flames had been fully extinguished.

The operation ended at 1.15pm. No injuries were reported, while the cause of the fire and total loss have yet to be established.
