SIBU: Tying the knot on Valentine’s Day is a dream come true for many couples.

For primary school sweethearts Aaron Wong and Hii Mei Mei, this year’s Valentine Day has changed their lives in that they are now husband and wife.

“Mei Mei and I studied together at SJK Chung Sing,” said the beaming groom when  met at Sibu Foochow Association’s Marriage Registry Office here yesterday.

“It’s something truly wonderful to finally tie the knot with my lovely classmate.”

The couple, both 28, are currently working in Singapore, where they will fly back to tomorrow.

Asked how many children they would want to have, Aaron smiled.

“We pray for two kids – a pair of a boy and a girl.”

Meanwhile for another couple, Michael Wong and Irene Lim, yesterday was a memorable date for them in that they celebrated three occasions as one.

“Feb 14 is the birthday of my lovely wife – not only is it  Valentine’s Day, but we get married today and thus from now on, Valentine’s Day becomes our anniversary day,” said Michael, who is in the bakery business.

The 31-year-old said he was first acquainted with his 30-year-old wife – a hairdresser from Kanowit – via a WhatsApp group a year ago.

“I have technology to thank for – I met my beautiful wife via WhatsApp,” he enthused.

For Tiong Kung Yung and Jacqueline Goh, they enjoyed eight years of sweet friendship before deciding to marry on Valentine’s Day – a date that they chose not solely because of its connection with Cupid, but also because of practicality.

“Feb 14 is an easy date to remember. Also by choosing this date, we celebrate two very special occasions, simultaneously,” said Tiong.

Both of them are currently working in Kuching.

The three couples were among 10 couples who had their marriages officiated by Assistant Registrar of Marriage, Joseph Tang.

The ceremonies were performed in two sessions – five couples in the morning, and five in the afternoon.
