LIMBANG: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has recorded a total of 22 cases involving various offences here as of January this year, amounting to RM1.4 million worth of confiscated items.
KPDNHEP Limbang chief Pulnama Tarah said throughout the period, his men had conducted inspection on a total of 1,185 premises, and issued compound totalling RM2,500.
“From the total 22 cases, there were two cases under the Supply Control Act 1961, nine under Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, six under Weights and Measures Act 1972, and five under Trade Descriptions Act 2011,” he said yesterday.
The most major case this year, said Pulnama, was the seizure of an oil-transporting vessel during ‘Ops Libas’, which also involved the General Operations Force (GOF) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Feb 7.
He said during the operation, GOF and MACC intercepted a vessel, with its skipper and five crew members on board, at a long pond near Sungai Kubong.
“KPDNHEP Limbang enforcement team inspected the vessel, which was carrying 100,000 litres of diesel worth RM1.4 million.
“We seized all the items for further investigation, under the Supply Control Act 1961,” he said.
Pulnama said all suspects were found to be without any licence or permission to handle controlled items – in the vessel-interception case, it was the diesel.
“The case is being investigated under Section 21 of Supply Control Act 1961 – read together with Regulation 3 (1) of Control of Supply Act 1974,” he said further.
