KOTA KINABALU: More than 5,000 children, aged five, in the state constituencies of Petagas and Putatan were given polio vaccine under the Sabah Polio Immunisation Campaign carried out since Dec 27 last year.

Petagas assemblyman Datuk Uda Sulai said the programme under the Health Ministry targets local community in the area.

It reflects the government’s commitment in stemming the spread of polio in the state, Uda said while visiting some of the areas in Kampung Ulu where the immunization campaign was conducted yesterday.

“I was informed that about 8,700 children in Petagas and Putatan have been identified to receive the polio immunization. We are very grateful to the relevant authorities for this programme,” he said.

Uda, the Assistant Law and Native Affairs Minister, also urged folk in Putatan to maintain hygiene in their respective homes so as to prevent the spread of diseases.
