LIMBANG: The state government will implement upgrading work for the Custom, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) infrastructure in the northern region this year.

This was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who said an allocation had been placed under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).

“Although the effort to upgrade CIQ’s infrastructure is under federal list, the state government under the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed to upgrade the CIQ’s infrastructure.

“The CIQs at Tedungan, Pandaruan and Menkalap Trusan Lawas will be upgraded by using state allocation under NRDA,” he said when officiating the Limbang Division Immigration Department’s dinner on Friday.

Tengah, who is also Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources, revealed that the upgrading project for CIQ Pandaruan has been offered to the successful contractor.

The other two CIQ projects comprised CIQ Tedungan, which is in the process for contractor appointment, and Mengkalap Trusan’s CIQ which is still in the design stage.

2020 is going to be significant year for Sarawak as the state will implement various projects under NRDA.

The success of project implementation under NRDA, the deputy chief minister advised, will need total involvement and cooperation both federal and state government departments as well as the surrounding community.

NRDA, he explained, was set up under the intiative of the chief minister and the projects would be implemented based on priority.

Tengah noted that the state government will continue with its initial plan related to the construction of Pan Borneo Highway phase two which will be connecting Miri, Brunei, Limbang and Lawas.

This commitment came about after the federal government decided to change the highway route by not passing through Brunei.

“Sarawak government through Abang Johari will continue with the effort which had been planned before and implement the project so as to further enhance existing bilateral ties with Brunei.

Also present at the event were Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Assistant Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang, Limbang Resident Ir Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi, Lawas District Officer Ladin Atok and Limbang District Council’s chairman Councillor Sufian Mohat.
