KUCHING: A 37-year-old motorcyclist is believed to have died after being stabbed multiple times by his pillion rider in Batu Kawa early this morning.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli said the police was informed at 3.40am of an unconscious man lying on the five-footway near a shop.

“A police team went to the location and found the man had died at the scene,” he told a press conference after the handing-over of new vehicles at the Sarawak Contingent Police headquarters at Jalan Badruddin.

He said that based on initial investigation, the victim knew the suspect who attacked him after he hopped on the motorcycle.

“Based on footage captured by close-circuit television cameras, after the motorcycle moved about 20 to 30 metres, the suspect suddenly took out what is believed to be a sharp weapon and started stabbing the victim multiple times,” said Ramli, adding that the victim fell from the motorcycle after he was stabbed.

Ramli revealed that the motive behind the attack was because the suspect had accused the victim of previously smashing the suspect’s car windows.

“We have identified the suspect and we are actively tracking him down. We also have witnesses from the scene. We are confident the suspect will be arrested soon,” said Ramli.

Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
