KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here yesterday postponed to March 11, the hearing of an application by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and jewellery firm Global Royalty Trading SAL, to receive photographs of and physically inspect assets seized from the premises of Obyu Holdings Sdn Bhd.
Worth RM680 million, the assets seized by police in 2018 and 2019, are alleged to be linked to the misappropriation of funds from sovereign wealth fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
High Court judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin fixed the hearing for next month after allowing an application by the prosecution, represented by deputy public prosecutor Fatnin Yusof, for an extension of time to file its affidavit in response to the application for the photographs and the inspection.
In its suit against Obyu Holdings, the government is seeking the forfeiture of the company’s assets, in accordance with the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
The seized assets include, among others, 11,991 pieces of jewellery, 401 wrist watches, 16 pieces of wrist watch accessories, 234 pairs of spectacles, 306 handbags, and cash totalling RM114,164,393.44 in various denominations.
A large portion of the luxury items seized by the police, were from an apartment owned by Obyu Holdings, as well as from another property in Kuala Lumpur which was also seized on Nov 1, 2018.
Najib, Rosmah and Global Royalty are third parties in the government’s suit.
At today’s proceedings, Najib and Rosmah were respectively represented by Nur Fazreen Hazrina Rahim and Iskandar Shah Ibrahim, while Datuk David Gurupatham and Datuk Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin respectively represented Global Royalty and Obyu Holdings. — Bernama
