KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) committee, led by its president Datuk Frankie Liew, had a dialogue with Sabah Immigration Director Datuk Dr Muhamad Sade Bin Mohamad Amin here yesterday.

During the dialogue, Liew had raised issues about Chinese workers and work permit faced by China-based firms that invested in Sabah.

In response, Dr Muhamad said the government’s policy on the employment of foreign workers could be divided into two categories.

The first category is the employment of foreign workers from five approved source countries, namely Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia and Nepal, who are allowed to work in the agriculture, manufacturing, plantation and services sectors.

On the other hand, employing foreign workers from other countries, including China, requires the application of Expatriate Profession Visa.

Dr Muhamad also welcomed SCCC to contact the individuals in charge of the respective immigration units should investors encountered any problems.

Liew thanked the director for taking time to meet with the committee, adding that the dialogue enabled SCCC to build better rapport with the department.
