KUCHING: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Sarawak Youth has rejected the appointment of 19 Parliamentary Coordinators in Sarawak which was announced by state Pakatan Harapan (PH) deputy chairman Baru Bian today.

Its chief Abu Tariq said the appointment had disregarded the consensus among PH Sarawak since no prior discussion or decision was made among the state PH leadership.

“Amanah Sarawak that is contesting in parliamentary constituencies such as Santubong, Batang Sadong, Tanjong Manis, Batang Lupar and Samarahan should have its representatives appointed as the Parliamentary Coordinators but this is not the case,” he lamented in a statement.

Abu said the appointed Parliamentary Coordinators for the mentioned constituencies are representatives from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak instead.

“Our consensus is clear that whichever party that is standing in the parliamentary constituency should be appointed (as the Parliamentary Coordinator),” he said.

He said the appointment announced by Baru had deprived representatives of Amanah Sarawak the opportunity of being appointed as Parliamentary Coordinators in those parliamentary constituencies which Amanah had contested in the 2018 general elections.

To add to that, Abu said Amanah Sarawak had been disseminating information on PH government’s policies and initiatives in the mentioned parliamentary constituencies.

Because of this, he said the appointment was clearly an attempt to deny the role of Amanah Sarawak in the state PH.

According to him, Amanah Sarawak adheres to the preliminary guidelines during the selection of the Parliamentary Coordinators, that any party of PH Sarawak that contested in the parliamentary constituencies reserves the right to nominate candidates as the Parliamentary Coordinators.

“Due to disappointment, Amanah Sarawak Youth has completely rejected the appointment of the Parliamentary Coordinators. A letter of objection will be sent to the chairman of PH Sarawak and PH Presidential Council.”

Abu said Amanah Sarawak Youth urged the PH Presidential Council to take appropriate action given that the matter would undermine PH’s integrity in the state.
