LAWAS: The state government will repair 56 dilapidated schools in northern Sarawak through the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) soon.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the list of the schools was now ready to be tendered out by NRDA.

He said this at the launch of Zone 15A of GPS for Bukit Sari and Ba Kelalan at Lawas Public Park today.

“That’s the difference between us in GPS where 56 tenders for the schools project will be out soon while we are still having problem with the federal government after having paid RM350 million last year and another RM350 million in February this year with the condition to repair our schools,” he said.

The chief minister was referring to the delay in repairs of dilapidated schools in Sarawak under the advance repayment of federal loan, which was agreed upon earlier.

He had consented to NRDA to allocate part of the RM1.5 billion allocated for this purpose, with 56 primary and secondary schools earmarked under the first batch to benefit from the repairs.

The tender process is handled by Recoda, the authority overseeing the renewable energy corridor of development.
