KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders and parliamentarians are said to be currently in Kuala Lumpur amid a frenzy of speculations that Pakatan Harapan (PH) is facing a major crisis.

Sources have claimed that GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is the chief minister, is meeting with the elected representatives from the state.

However, it is unclear what would be discussed.

The media in the Peninsular Malaysia have reported that a slew of political party meetings have or will be taking place today in the Klang Valley.

The parties include Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Umno.

The reports speculated that PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali could exit the party and that a new government could be formed.

MalaysiaKini reported that Azmin is meeting party leaders loyal to him at a hotel in Petaling Jaya and he was expected to give a press conference later today.

Separately, The Star reported that Prime MInister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is chairing a Bersatu supreme council at Menara Yayasan Selangor, about five minutes’ drive away from the hotel where Azmin’s faction is meeting.

The developments today came on the hot heels of the PH presidential council meeting on Friday night where it was reportedly agreed that Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be left to decide when to hand over power to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“I am proud that everyone has left it up to me to decide when I should relinquish my post. I will decide. This decision was unanimous. So (as far as we are concerned) tonight, there is no time, no fixed date,” he said as quoted by The Star.

However, the New Straits Times, in a report on its website this afternoon, cited sources as claiming that a heated argument had happened during the meeting.

The report said Azmin and Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya were outraged by the ways some council members had treated Dr Mahathir.
