KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg declined to talk to reporters after chairing a two-hour meeting with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders and MPs in Kuala Lumpur today which began around 2pm.
None of the GPS MPs and leaders approached by reporters responded to queries on what was discussed during the meeting at the Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur, according to Malaysiakini.
While Abang Johari left the vicinity of the hotel, other GPS leaders were seen staying put and lounging at the hotel.
The Borneo Post is contacting GPS leaders who attended the meeting.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad also kept the nation guessing about what could transpire today with a slew of political party meetings being held in the Klang Valley.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman had no comments for the press when he finally ended the party’s supreme council meeting and left Menara Yayasan Selangor at 3pm more than three hours after it started, the Malay Mail said.
PPBM deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, however, told the press “normal things” were discussed at the meeting and declined to comment further, except that he had to leave to attend a wedding.
The meeting was held about five minutes from the hotel where Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is reportedly meeting the PKR leaders who are aligned to him.
Citing a source at the hotel, Malay Mail had reported that Azmin and PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin could lead an exodus of MPs and other leaders from the party today.
The source said the announcement would be made today once the numbers are enough to form a new government.
“They are waiting on the numbers. Once enough numbers are reached, I think they will announce it,” said the source, referring to the number of MPs needed to form a simple majority required to form a new government.
However, another source close to Bersatu said Dr Mahathir will meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today but will not announce anything.
Currently, any coalition needs 112 out of 222 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat to form a new government.
Meanwhile, the Umno supreme meeting is reported to be going on now.
