SIBU: All 5,900 village security and development committee (JKKK) community leaders in Sarawak will receive their January allowance this week.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the delay was caused by logistical problems.

“However, your allowance should be ready by the end of this month and it will be backdated two months,” he said following the handing over of certificates to 53 tuai rumah during a Chinese New Year celebration at the Sibu Resident’s office yesterday.

Dr Sim concurred that many community leaders were eager to know about the increase for their allowance.

‘You can always discuss that with the Finance Minister or the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari (Tun Openg) when he comes here,” he said.

Dr Sim reminded JKKK members that they are empowered by the Resident’s office to implement projects and they need to safeguard their areas properly.

He thanked JKKK members for helping the Gabungan Parti Sarawak government to be its eyes and ears.

“Together, we can make Sarawak strong,” he added.

On Covid-19, Dr Sim said it was fortunate that there has been no case in the state so far, pointing out that Sarawak had used its own Immigration autonomy to stop outsiders from coming into the state, especially those from China.

Among those present at the event were Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming and Sibu Resident Charles Siaw.
